Australian Bird Media ( formerly Australian Bird Video Collection ) is a channel dedicated to the Birds of Australia. Since launching in 2015, we have produced over 250 Videos's showcasing our wonderful birds. The Productions range from 30 seconds for single species to full length documentaries of an hour.
Over this period, the equipment we use has been upgraded several times and our recent publications are filmed in 4k or 6K, Ultra High definition, giving incredible quality and detail to the subscriber.
We have many productions planned, spanning different habitats, and in some cases, documenting birding trips across different geographic regions of Australia.
Australian Bird Media also has a library of stock footage available for filmmakers. This will be cataloged in our new Web page, currently in production.

Spinifex Pigeon 4K Short Film.
This short film documents a stunningly beautiful species of Pigeon that inhabits dryer parts of Queensland, Northern territory and Western Australia. There are two forms, the Red bellied and White bellied which is the subject of my film.
They are a diminutive Pigeon, weighing in around 100 Grams, compared to the more widespread Crested pigeon that comes in around 200 Grams.
One can expect to find them feeding on rocky plains and creek lines, often with sparse Spinifex cover.
They will burst into flight when disturbed but conversely, can become very tame around human habitation. These delightful little pigeons have a gentle cooing call that they use to stay in contact with each other.
I filmed these in various locations in central Queensland.

The spinifex pigeon is a small and compact pigeon, which weighs 80-110 g, has a mean body length of 200 - 235mm, and has their wingspan of 300-350 mm. Males are slightly larger than females, and generally difficult to visually differentiate.[3][4]
The plumage is distinctively rufous-brown with thin black bars on the wings and back. The forehead, sides of crown and ear coverts are grey and the bill is black. The facial markings are bold and distinctive, a bright red facial mask is bordered by a black supercilium and moustachial stripe. A white band extends from the chin to behind the eye and the throat is black. A white stripe is present on the breast, and the legs and feet are grey.[4] There is no seasonal variation in plumage.[3][4]
There is substantial geographical variation in the colour of the plumage on the belly, which is reflected in the separation of the western brown-bellied birds from the other subspecies recognised.[2]

The Wedge-Tailed Eagles look a lot darker in colour than I remember them. Some location data would have been interesting too.
WT Eagles get darker with age and become almost black at full maturity. Yes, more data etc is always nice. This is one of my original offerings from about 11 years ago. Thanks for watching.

Hello! I would like to ask what time of day did you find most optimal to go for birding at moreton island?
I visited in the cooler months and birding is good all day long. Tides can play a part though and an outgoing tide can be good for raptors and shorebirds.
I was just in Sydney couple of days ago and Ubered to a Garigal N. Park and among about 12 species of bird seen, 1 was this beautiful spotted pardalote. My photos of the young inquisitive male brought me lots of joy even though its winter plumage a little lacking. Thanks for sharing!

Seeing the spinifex pigeon in the rocks reminds me of the rocky slope behind my aunt and uncle's caravan in Arizona: swarming every morning with small birds (quail among them) that could barely be distinguished from the rocks. I want to borrow the "hat" for Melbourne Cup day. Thanks for posting, Tim, say Liz and Ginger (pic left) in Victoria.

Gorgeous film. Thank you so much! Saw a few of these out near Winton, but could barely get an ID photo, let alone all these great close ups. You must have the patience of Job, and possibly a fairly long lens! Love your videos. My next project is to learn how to use mine.

Stuck in Brisbane at the moment yearning to be free from this ever sprawling urban hell. No birds left here. Thanks for perking me up and piquing my interest in this little bird.
Cities suck. You can't beat the natural world to keep the soul at peace. I hope you get there soon.
Actually, Brisbane has become a bit of an “Urban Hell” as you put it , but depends where you are. Still plenty of birds if you know where to look. I went for an afternoon walk around the block yesterday and saw more than a dozen different birds. But you are right. So many old trees being cut down for development. The Figbird and Koel lost their Palm , the Magpies lost their enormous nesting pine (no babies last year) the crow lost the limb their nest was on. Umbrella tree is gone (I know it’s a pest but the Lorikeets did love it!) . . . And so on. The Noisy Miners and Indian Mynas however, seem to be doing just fine!!!!
